This stately limestone residence was erected in 1865, and was considered to be one of Sandy Hill's finest estates. Winterholme was once home to Sir Sandford Fleming, the person responsible for the invention of uniform standard time zones. Fleming also played an important role in the development of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Originally of Italianate character, the building was converted to apartments after the departure of the Fleming's in the 1920's, with the entrance moved to the south side of the edifice. It is rumoured that the original entrance can now be found amongst the ruins collected by former Prime Minister Mackenzie King at Kinsgmere in Gatineau Park.
